At home during a pandemic? What can we do?

By: Jeanette Rupar, LMT BCTMB

It’s a season.  We’re all stuck at home, trying to not be sick.  Getting bored?? Here’s a list of things you can do while staying home! (Compiled by yours truly, so hang in there, it may get…  interesting).

(And I will post this here… Full disclosure. I am an amazon affiliate. The amazon links found here will send you to said places, and if you sign up for either music or kindle unlimited, I may make a bit of money off of said sign up)

Socializing (or how to be together while separate). There are some great ways to still be social while being secluded as to not get sick. Texting, instant messaging and video calling are all wonderfully great options. Skype and facetime have changed the game alot. Not to mention just plain old phone calls!!! (I know, right?! Who would’ve thought?)

Netflix/Amazon  Prime Streaming/Hulu

There is always binge watching an old favorite, or finding a new show to watch.  I’m sure that there’s something you’ve always been wanting to see, even if you didn’t want to admit it to others (or yourself).  Go ahead. Give it a try. You never know what you may find out there. You may find a new series to be addicted to! Take a search. Ask a friend.

Reading!

Books are one of my faves. I absolutely love reading.  Science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction are just some of my favorite things to pick up.  Heck, I love books in huge series! (I mean, it’s like binge watching a good tv show, but with words!!)

So, I realize that libraries are probably gonna close.  Because, well, we all want to keep people safe. But, there are ways around actually getting to the actual library.  Most libraries will have ebooks and audiobooks available to borrow, and you don’t even have to leave your house. Even better, they can be downloaded right onto your phone thru a most wonderful app called Overdrive.  They have plenty of options for readers to catch up on a series or find something new to read.

Another option is Amazon’s kindle unlimited.  You get a 30 day free trial (which, win!!!). Want to learn more??  Click here!!!

I was gonna post some series here, but I think I’ll let you go and search books for yourselves.  I will post suggestions in the comments, if it is wanted.

Some other bits and pieces…..

Want to learn something new!  There is a world of knowledge out there at your fingertips.  Young and old can always learn something new and interesting.  There are a lot of platforms out there offering free classes, you just have to know where to look.  Are there more places than this?? Yes. But these tend to my my favorites.

Virtual Museum Tours.  Yes, museums are actually setting up online tours of their museums (cool, right??)  So, I’m just going to leave the original post from Parents.com link here, because I’m lazy and it’s already compiled into a very nice clickable list.

Gaming.

Board games are fun ways for families to pass the time. They can also be found online.  I mean, sure, you can find WOW or minecraft and such, which is cool.  But you can also be a part of online D&D games run and played by other real people!  https://roll20.net/

Or best of all, start some spring cleaning while listening to music.  IHeartRadio, Pandora and Spotify are definately options, as well as Amazon music.  If you have Amazon Prime, you already can stream lots of music, as well as joining music unlimited!
