Oncology Massage

Oncology massage is a newer field of massage therapy that assists those people who have been diagnosed with cancer through all stages of cancer, from diagnosis to treatment to post care and end of life care.  Oncology massage therapists are trained in adjusting therapies to each individual client by adjustments in positioning and pressure from day to day.  Focus is on comfort for each client.

Studies have shown that oncology massage will not spread cancer.  Massage can be just as beneficial to a cancer patient as it is to clients who don’t have cancer.  It can ease the anxiety from diagnosis and treatments.  Pain has also been shown to decrease with the use of massage during cancer treatments.  Studies have suggested that it may help with the fatigue and depression that can be caused by chemotherapy and radiation.  Massage can even help with Chemo Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.

Having a properly trained massage therapist who understands the biological mechanics of cancer and its treatments can help provide the client with a massage that allows for each client’s uniquely personal needs.

Why is Oncology Massage different?

The body changes when we go through cancer treatments. It is not only trying to fight of the cancer, but is also dealing with chemotherapy and radiation that is destroying healthy and non healthy cells alike. Bodies do that by removing the dead cells from the area as well as trying to make new cells to replace those that are lost. The body also regenerates cells after any surgery that may have been done.

With all of that in mind, this means that your body is working really, really hard. You may feel tired, nauseated, or many other side effects due to treatment. For this reason, pressure used during massage is much, much lighter. Why Knot Wellness likes to think of it not as “we are taking care of all the pain by digging as deeply as we can”, but rather “your body is going thru it a lot and deserves something gentle”. We want you to find rest during your time of upheaval, that is why we are here.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Do you want to learn more about how Manual Lymphatic Drainage can work for you?? Find out more about it here!!!!

Abdominal Massage

Have you ever had pain or other issues within your abdominal area? Does the pain strike in the most inconvenient times. Ever wonder if anything could help you when this pain strikes? So have we. Which is why we have created this specific massage focus: Abdominal Massage…

Let us assist with those issues. We’ve been there, done that, and have the mental (and some physical scars) to prove it! (And no, this isn’t a competition. Nobody wins if we are competing. We are here so that everyone wins!!!!)

Conditions abdominal massage can help with:

  • Constipation and associated pain
  • Cramping
  • IBS
  • Loosening scar tissue. Scar tissue can run deeper into your body than you may think, and can pull on surrounding tissue, which can cause pain.

So how do we assist your abdominal area with massage, you may ask?

Jet combines her knowledge of abdominal pain and various massage techniques in combination to help calm the pain down. Those techniques include Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique (SMRT), scar tissue work along side general and medical massage techniques.

We work slowly to help connect the nervous system to what is going on with your body. All aspects of your abdominal area (front, sides, back) will be worked on. This will let your body release any tension in your abdominal area so that you feel less pain and your GI track can move things along easier!

A Note on Abdominal Massage:

If you are having acute pain (pain that has just started and/or is severe), please see your primary care physician or go to the hospital. Serious pain can be a sign that something is wrong, and should not be worked on by a massage therapist.
This massage will not be able to help with gall bladder issues, hernias or appendicitis.
